What Is Breathwork?

It refers to any type of breathing exercises or techniques. Breathwork is an active physical exercise significant in and of itself to the development of the individual and the whole person.

With origins in the ancient Vedic texts from India, breathwork was developed through 50 specific and distinct practices all collated for the practice of Pranayama, which means “controlling the breath” in Sanskrit. The practice entails either a short 5–20 minute session or a longer 45–60+ minute session of controlled breathing. The controlled breathing exercises always have some rhythmic pattern to them. This pattern allows for a…

Emotions make us human. All of us are capable of feeling emotions that make us feel good — joy, trust, admiration, and anticipation. In the same way, we also feel negative emotions — sadness, anger, shame, and disgust. Dealing with positive feelings is not a problem, but we couldn’t say the same thing with negative feelings. Depression, anxiety, fear, and all sorts of negativities can be crippling and can cause chronic stress and damage our immune system. You may be wondering, how can we deal with negative emotions?

Self-soothing is one of the ways to calm or regulate our bodies…

Do you know that apart from fever, dry cough, shortness of breath, and sore throat, COVID-19 also causes emotional distress? I’m sure you know that already. (Sadly, even without COVID-19, one in four people in the world will be affected by a mental or neurological disorder at some point in their lives.) When we experience emotional distress, we feel overwhelmed with negative emotions — sadness, anger, fear, stress, anxiety, among others. This is to be expected, especially during times of pandemic. …

Gratitude is a superpower — it can shift our doubts, insecurities, and those nagging thoughts that “I am not enough” into things that we have and enjoy. It helps us change our perspective on how we see the world.

Gratitude is an emotion often associated with an appreciation for what a person receives, be it tangible or not. Empirical evidence shows that practicing gratitude produces positive effects on a person. When you acknowledge the goodness in your life, you can connect to something outside of yourself. These connections can be with other people, with nature, and sometimes with a higher…

The COVID-19 pandemic has put the world on standstill — most countries are on lockdown and travel bans have been implemented everywhere. Businesses all over the globe have been directly affected by this crisis, and new business norms are put into place while quarantine is being implemented. Companies are adhering to government guidelines on social distancing to their offices which suggests that workspace densities will have to be reduced by at least 50%. This forces companies to shift to remote work or work-from-home setup.

While working from home allows more flexibility and can increase productivity, it can also introduce a…

You cannot pour from an empty cup. As a life coach, I have always lived by this little nugget — if there is nothing left in the cup, regardless of how many times you turn it over, you will not get what you’re wanting to come out of it. It’s a very simple concept, but oftentimes overlooked because we get caught up by the demands of modern life. Working, running the household, taking care of the family and engaging in different social circles can get pretty much overwhelming at times. …

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our lives in ways more than one. So many of us have found a new reality that includes working from home, home-schooling of children, having less physical interactions or worse, unemployment. These changes in our daily routines can be overwhelming and can have a negative impact on our mental health.

Fortunately, there are numerous things that we can do to look after our mental health.

I have three tips to share with you, and I hope you find them useful.

The genius inventor Nikolas Tesla said, “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” This is a perfect summation of the principles of Tibetan Sound Therapy, which uses bells in the shape of bowls to produce a rich and vibrant tone using a wooden mallet to help induce a deep meditative and relaxing state. Think of it as similar to Mantra Meditation that requires the mental or physical repetition of a word to form a specific physiologic state, vibration and response.

The difference here is that the rhythmic vibrations are…

Yoga and sunset on the beach. All rights reserved.

Yoga is more than just a system of poses. It is also more than just mental centering and calming philosophy. It is all of this and more. Think of yoga as a life practice with the purposeful focus on self-awareness through both physical and mental actions. These actions can be in the form of a movement but could also be breathing or meditation or focused thought.

Yoga is the simple practice of using your entire being to connect to your entire being. Daily activities tend to pull parts of “us” in different directions, work, life, friends, and family. They all…

What is Meditation?

Meditation is difficult to define, not because it is an unknown practice but instead because it is a very lucid practice. Basically meditation is the action of paying attention with the purposeful intent of gaining self-insight, peace, calmness, and a better sense of one’s whole person.

Meditation seeks to “repair” the stresses on the self that occur during the daily routine of dealing with life, work, family, and friends. Meditation is a skill in the way that practice improves one’s ability to meditate. As compared to exercise, any level or commitment to meditation is healthy, just as…
